Generate your own electricity and cut your bills
Solar PV lets your home turn daylight into electricity, reducing how much you buy from the grid and shielding you from rising energy prices. RnR Renewables designs and installs solar panel systems sized around your roof, its orientation, any shading and your household’s real usage — nationwide. As a RECC member (00078349) for Solar PV, we install to the Renewable Energy Consumer Code, so you get clear pre-contract information and consumer protection alongside the work.
How solar PV works
Roof-mounted panels convert daylight into direct current (DC) electricity. An inverter converts that into the alternating current (AC) your home uses, so your appliances draw from the panels first and top up from the grid only when needed. Add a battery and you can store daytime generation to use in the evening; without one, surplus electricity can be exported. A monitoring app shows what you’re generating and using in real time.
The benefits of going solar
- Lower electricity bills and less reliance on the grid
- Protection against future energy price rises
- Optional battery storage to use more of what you generate, day and night
- Export of surplus generation where an export tariff is available
- A lower-carbon home, and a natural pairing with an EV charger or heat pump
What affects how much you’ll generate
Output depends on roof orientation (south is ideal, but east and west roofs still perform well), pitch, shading across the day from chimneys, trees or neighbouring buildings, and the system size relative to your usage. Rather than quote a one-size-fits-all package, we assess all of this at survey and design a system that genuinely fits your home and consumption pattern.
What’s included
- Roof, orientation and shading assessment, and a check of roof condition
- System and inverter sizing around your actual usage
- Optional battery storage, or a battery-ready design for later
- Full installation, commissioning and DNO notification
- Monitoring setup, a clear handover, and manufacturer warranties on the equipment
Grants and VAT
Qualifying domestic solar installations currently attract 0% VAT until 31 March 2027 (HMRC VAT Notice 708/6); the rate changes after that date. We’ll set out the current position for your project in writing, with no assumptions.
Our process
- Desktop review and a home survey
- Bespoke design and a written quote after the survey
- Installation by our team, typically within a day or two for a domestic system
- Commissioning, DNO paperwork and monitoring setup
Frequently asked questions
Do I need planning permission for solar panels?
Most domestic roof-mounted installations are permitted development, but we confirm this for your property — including any conservation-area or listed-building considerations — at survey.
Is there VAT on solar panels?
Qualifying domestic installations are 0% VAT until 31 March 2027 (HMRC VAT Notice 708/6); the rate changes after that date.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. We can size the system to be battery-ready so storage can be added in future without reworking the install.
How much will I actually save?
Savings depend on your usage, system size and any export tariff. We give figures based on your actual consumption at survey rather than a generic estimate.
How long do the panels last and what about maintenance?
Panels are long-life with manufacturer warranties; they need very little maintenance beyond keeping them reasonably clear. We explain the manufacturer warranty terms for your chosen equipment.
Will my roof be suitable?
We check roof condition, structure, space and shading at survey and tell you honestly if it isn’t suitable or if remedial work is sensible first.
